A white water rafting
expedition was flagged off at Yingkiang near Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh today in
presence
of high ranking civil and army officials.
The rafting
expedition was being conducted by the 12th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment, according to an official source.
The expedition coincided with the Siang river festival.
The team for this expedition consists of one officer and 23 other ranks. The team was led by Lt Udayan Pratap Singh of 12 Bihar Regiment. The expedition team will traverse a distance of around 180 kms in five days, stopping enroute at Geku, Boleng, Routaung, Ranaghat and terminating at Pasighat on December 17.
The route on the Siang river has a number of rapids and negotiating these will be a test of nerves, said a team member. The team on board has two rafts and comprises highly trained members, sources added.
The expedition was launched in the
presence of Brigade Commanders of 5 and 82 Mountain Brigades, Brig M M S Rai and Brig A K Boralai.
The expedition is assisted by a support team from 12 Bihar and 17 Kumaon.
