RAPE OF BPO WOMAN EMPLOYEE
PRATHIBA MOORTHY a call
centre employee at Bangalore was terribly raped
and murdered by the driver of the vehicle she was travelling to reach
her office.
Many people react to such incidents by telling others to forget such
incidents to be practical and to go on with life as usual without
bothering much.but it is sad to live in a world where rapists achieve
what they want but get away without being punished for the crime.
There are of course people who refuse to be complacent as it is bad to
accept things will go like this and nothing could be done to put a stop
to such atrocities
Inside the BPO world
Thousands of men and
women in India are now employed in what is called
as call
centres earning money they did not even dream to get especially
at their age. They work in a world culturally and geogrophically far
away from theirs that too in very odd hours. Many conservative parents
have allowed their girl children to accept call centre assignments
during night shifts on a firm belief that the company meaning the
employers will take proper care of their daughters.
Very
little information about call centre are available to the
outside world because of limited accessibility to such centres.More than this
for fear of loss of such lucrative employment insiders talk very
little. So call centres remain to be mysterious where Indian men and
women speak American,English or Australian accents inside the call
centres and speak their own outside.
Adequate security
In this case the woman who lost her life belived her employer so
much and travelled in the vehicle supposed to be sent by her
company to pick her up but has been
let down.
After Prathiba`s murder call centres have suddenly become alert
and
started formulating security policies. Better late than never. The
fact that they have just started thinking about this though they
must very much be aware of the dangers involved indicates their
complacency.
Making the world safe for young women should be taken as a
serious subject and necessary action taken whenever and wherever
required to put an end to such a tale with Prathiba.
Let us pray that her case be the last..
