This refers to ‘Is SSI de-reservation essential?’ (ET, Dec 12). Our
industries in general and the SSI in particular have lived under government’s protective umbrella. It has made them the weaklings. They have become spineless to run with the winds of liberalised world, as they have enjoyed one or another protection, overtly or covertly.
To make our SSI units competitive, the promotion measures that mostly cater the needs of vested interests should be wound up. Such facilities have enabled certain sheep to wear lion’s skin; and these are the groups that are now shouting for the higher dose of governmental help.
