Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata felt the need of the National University during November 1891 and voluntarily offered the huge wealth of money earned by him for an endowment and for the development of an educational institution.
His dream was realized in May 21, 1908 and the
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was established at Bangalore. Even today IISc is known in Bangalore as ‘
Tata Institute’. The Institution is beginning its hundredth year of existence on 21st May, 2008.
