The
states of north eastern part of our country like Mizoram, Manipur , Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have long been neglected by the Central Government and this has been highlighted by recent coverage by HT .The problems faced by this states called "
seven sisters" are many.Massive unemployment has resulted in youths getting enrolled in
various underground
outfits operating in these states. The ruling Governments in these states are doing nothing for the welfare of the poor people of various tribes living in these states.Massive corruption is there.Funds from the Union Government meant for various development projects in these states are not being utilised properly and as a result discontent among the people is rising day by day.Various extremist outfits operating in these states virtually run a parralel Government in these states. The
situation is very delicate and alarming. As reported by HT even our
national language Hindi is banned by the underground outfits in these states.Extortion, Kidnappings and killings are common in these states. In states like Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland the state Governments whim does not run beyond the state capitals.Definitly the situation is alarming. Indians living other states in nothern and southern parts of India actually are not aware of the explosive situation in these seven states in northeast.
The Union Government need to take urgent steps to woo back the people living in northeastern states into the national mainstream. Urgent steps should be taken for tacking the unemployment problem in these states.A special economic package should be provided for these states for the economic upliftment of the poor people of these states.Something on the model of "Grameen Bank" type of Bangladesh should be started for the poor people in these states to become self dependent. Also educated people in these states should be given some kind of reservation in Central Govt jobs so that they dont feel alienated from the national mainstream..Hindustan Times newspaper did a great job in highlighting the problems faced by these states.Lets hope some positive big steps will be taken for the economic development our "seven sisters" states in northeast .
