OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOUR OF
CHILDREN AND ROLE OF PARENTS Recently there have been many
violent incidents, involving children of various age groups. An article in India Today of Jan 21, 08 discusses the role of parenting in this respect. These may be due to the loss of parenting skills, loss of
control, parents being unaware of their activities. The present day moneyed parents are willing to give anything to their children. But these start having
negative effects. The children want instant and favourable results. Life is not so easy. It has many disappointments. Many children show psychological disorders and conduct disorders. They are disobedient, hostile, do stealing, tell lies, remain away from the school, are not attentive, might have tried smoking and drugs and driven vehicles unauthorized etc. Earlier discipline was maintained with an iron hand, now parents are trying to please their children. Some parents give many things to their children, and then the others force their parents to get them too. They influence the buying decisions of their parents. Parents are worried about the
success of their children, but mainly in studies. Their success in other areas is generally not appreciated. Every child can’t top the class. With both parents working, having a tiring week end and the child in the day care unit, things are changing for the worse. Also such factors are causing depression among the children. Some children do not talk to their parents, as they do not have anything to talk to them. Parents should strike a
balance. They should not accept everything the child demands. The parents must
teach the children seriously, important lessons like hard work, discipline, honesty, truth, compassion, kindness, maturity, taking responsibility, good behaviour etc. from the beginning itself.
