Widespread
child abuses in India are revealed. Both boys and girls are victims of tortures. Mental and physical exploitation of children within the family and outside home is an open secret. Strangely enough in most cases dear and near ones are responsible for the child harrassment. Parents in the poor families take initiatives for abusing their own children for the sake of earning money. In the educated families in the urban areas too children are abused for fulfilling the dreams of the parents themselves. Boys face greater physical abuses. A recent
study conducted nation-wide on child abuse has brought a good many facts which are stranger than fiction.The figures related to child abuses are a shocking eye-opener. The study reveals that one every two children boys and girls faces
sexual Abuse. Boys are slapped, beaten with sticks or kicked mercilessly. In West Bengal corporal punishment is banned in schools. But even in this state too girls or boys of tender age complain about getting less food. Nearly 53 per
cent boys and 47 per cent girls face sexual abuse. There is no dearth of measures adopted for controlling child abuse. But most of them are not in practical application. The survey conducted over 12447 is more extensive than one conducted in China with a sample size of less than 4000.
