Compensation of
Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of eleven
students who died in the collapse of a residential school
building in Surat district. Fourteen other students, all tribal girls, were
injured when the government-run building housing Adarsh Nivasi Shala at the tribaldominated Tickapura village in South Gujarat collapsed Friday night. Minister of state for education Anandiben Patel said the injured will get Rs 50,000 each. Talking to reporters after visiting some of the injured at the Surat civil hospital on Saturday morning, she said a committee has been set up to probe the incident and action would be taken against the culprits. Each year government grants are given to several institutes to do their task. If there were any discrepancies in the way the institute in question handled the funds, it would be looked into, the minister said. -PTI
