Out of the several topics, which Times of India of Sep 21, 07 highlights on its front page, one is about the Rupee getting
stronger day by day from Sep 01, 2006 onwards. In a tabular statement it shows, how the Rupee has gone strongest on Sep 20, 07, crossing the mark of 40 Rupees, which it had crossed, last on May 13, 1998, when Buddha smiled. It states that, this has happened mainly due to the cut in the interest rate by the US Federal Reserve, and also due to weak Dollar overseas and selling of Dollars by
exporters etc. The Rupee has become
stronger, in spite of the measures taken by the RBI. But the other side is that, it has become a matter of concern for the Government, especially from the point of view of the exporters. The growth of exports has shown deceleration already. But the expectations are that, Rupee will still become stronger.
