The headlines in Times International on 5th April, 2006 saying Rice on Floor and Straw in bed invoked an anxiety to look into the news carefully. Said to be the world’s most powerful woman seen on Indian channels replying to Press and interviewers always gave an impression of a tough lady governing US State as Secretary. Probably duty bound to watch her
nation’s interest and supremacy. Under that professional cover, there is a heart of a host, who can sleep on floor to accommodate guest in room and arrangement made for her, needs to be applauded. One who is privileged, abandons her privilege to accommodate underprivileged definitely makes a story.
Finally a tender heart at work leaves an impact to imagine the nature of person. Diplomatic compulsions do not pave the way; it is primarily warmth and affectionate behaviour which have caused the difference. History speaks for itself. We experience it in day to day life, in present also.
Orientation for State and Nation does not necessarily make you person with limited vision. Concern for
humanity can go hand in hand. Let it be orientation for self, family, Society, City,State,Nation or group of countries, it need not drive you to be against the other. All together can nurture each other’s interest, thus serve the humanity. Is survival coming in way-remains a
question?
But most of us are largely struggling for survival. Survival of self, survival to control, competing to
survive, manipulating to survive.
Can that question of survival and doing anything for survival becomes justified? Humanity has become more of a slogan than a feeling and realization. I met a
social worker, not only professionally qualified but dedicated for the cause for which worked. His family persuaded him hard to come back to family
business to take charge .After lot of resistance; he took charge and started nurturing. Overgrown ambitious state of mind drove him to assume dimension in business but business cycle and various market forces do not move consistent to ambitious plans. They take their turn steadily till credentials are established. Patience and persistent effort are core variables for any breakthrough. Lack of either will not bring forth commendable results.
Do you know what happened to this dedicated social worker? He turned insensitive to needs of business ethics, outlawed and started amassing wealth by fair or unfair means.
Once I happened to probe him, he confessed, gone are days of honesty, humanity, being law abiding citizen and so forth, survival had become a question. My prestige is governing, controlling, regulating and that gives a kick. Social work is an activity which I can do any time.
