MEDITATION FOR OUR BETTERMENT


     MEDITATION is done by directing our mind on a chosen focus. Times of India of May 09, 08 discusses the various aspects of Meditation. This process can be used for our benefit and growth, if it is done regularly. It reduces stress, strengthens the immune system, leads to better thinking, better power of concentration and slowing of ageing process. It is a harmless method for improving our health. Above all, we get inner feelings of contentment. Self discipline reduces conflicts. Living is more effective. We get higher knowledge about God, universe and cosmic mind etc. To start practice of meditation, it suggests duration of 30 minutes a day. We should preferably sit straight in a chair in a comfortable posture, and then draw attention to frontal area of the brain. We should take breath 2-3 times normally, be calm and pray to God. We should be aware of our natural breathing pattern. While breathing in, we should mentally recite a mantra like God, Om, peace, joy etc. While breathing out, we should feel happiness. We should continue like this, with mental calmness. We should then listen to mantra only, and then leave the mantra also and have a position of mental peace for some time, till completion of the process. We should do it once or twice per day for 30 days, before evaluating the results. It is suggested to even increase the period of calmness. In our daily activities also, we must have mental calmness, cheerfulness and optimism, balance of mind, rest, regular exercise and nutritive diet, with positive and constructive thoughts. Then our life will be effective, successful and enjoyable.
