The article lists why Dr. Manmohan singh being a weak
primeminister is advantageous to Sonia Gandhi & co, and how it benefits singh himself by staying weak.
1. Sonia can bail out of traps which manmohan often gets in to.
2. Manmohan is never a threat to the first family of congress and hence the dynasty politics.
3.It also helps him to garner unprecedented support from section of the media and liberals constituting the powerfull opinion making class.
Mitra criticizes manmohan's capacity to withstand washington's pressure or Islamabad's charm offensive as pathetically low. The comments on the joint statement with pakistan has been viewed a subtle expression of displeasure from sonia gandhi, though she has verbally claimed to defend singh's action.Manmohan singh's inefficiency in domestic politics might be a virtue, but it may not be when it comes to sensitive international issues especially as sensitive it is with pakistan as felt by the author.
Sonia's astute politics that could be compared with that of her mother-in-law was evident by her dependency of Ahmed patel for strategic inputs and pranab mukharjee to run political and administrative matters. Chandan feels this gives manmohan autonomy in one area namely the Foreign policy. Manmohan's initial hesitancy to go with the one-sided nuclear deal is also brought to light.
The Primeminister, according to chandan mitra, has an unnatural absence of ego which allowed him to somersault in offering concessions to pakistan on balochistan and delinking cross border terrorism from normalisation of relations, when there was displeasure from Ms. Gandhi. Mitra , typical of a BJP supporter, annoyed at the sorry tale of India's power shifting out of south block to the resident of congress president.

None of us ever have a trace of doubt about our honorable primeminister's knowledge in Economics, but is there a possibility that he can prove his autonomy in administration and absolute non-involvement of dynasty powers in
Indian Politics.
