It all started with the ever controversial 'statue queen' U.P. chief minister, 'Mayawati' terming Gandhi as 'gimmiky' and
justifying her act of unveiling her own statues and that of dalit leaders on her ruling region. There was a plea concerning the derogatory remark, before the bench comprising of chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice B.S.Chauhan, and they declined that there cannot be any code or guidelines making people mandatory to respect the father of nation.
"Respect has to be earned and not
demanded" as there is a saying. But with
absolutely corrupt and infected minds, respect need not be demanded. If someone like mayawati respects babuji, it is an insult to the great man.
On the other perspective, Mayawati needs to be appreciated for the fact that she does not use the name of Gandhiji for her vote bank politics unlike other politicians.
