Police Incompetence
The police force in India is highly incompetent, Mumbai blasts have once again proved it. On seeing
the photos of blast suspects flashed on television screen, a girl student rang-up the nearest police
station at Borivelli, claiming that she had seen them at Borrivelli station, moving suspiciously at around 2p.m. on that ill fated day. It was a vital information. But, the cops failed to get up from their deep slumber, as usual, and did not bother to ask her name even.
The police force is there to protect the public but, infact they are the people that public dreads the most. They are working on the very old standards set by British, to create terror in the people, to deal sternly with them so that they should be driven like dumb cattle. Their proximity to highly placed politician also is a stumbling block, in their way of rendering duty sincerely.
We can not blame them entirely, they are also under great stress at times. Most of the police force is deployed at ministerial bungalows rather than to be pressed in the service of the people.
It is high time we realize that our police force should show their human face, their mind-set needs to be over-hauled. They are drawing their salaries from tax-payers' hard earned money therefore they should be more loyal to the public than to a handful of
corrupt but influential people. Not all cops are corrupt, there are people like Kiran Bedi, but their number is far less.
