Hrishi-da could make viewers laugh and cry
Hrishikesh Mukherjee passed away on Sunday 27th August 2006 at Mumbai. He
died of Kidney failure at the Leelavati Hospital at the age of 83
years.
He directed a wide range of Hindi movies which could make audiences laugh and cry. He made serious movies like “Anand” and “Mili” which made you cry and movies such as “Golmal” and “Chupke-Chupke” which were hilarious comedies.
He was a very gentle and cultured person in his real life.
He started his
career as an assistant to Bimal Roy. He then went on his own and his first commercial hit was “Anari” released in 1959 starring the legendary Raj Kapoor and Nutan.
In a career spanning over 40 years he made more than 40 films. His movies were simple without any extravaganza. Some of the biggest stars of the Indian Cinema such as Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bacchan gave their best performances under his direction.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee is no more. Indian cinema will always remember him.
