Happiness
index: Indians fare a lot
better than most,
Times of India is an Oldest Newspaper in India. This newspaper is widely circulated in all major cities in India.Looking at its presentation, it can be seen that there is largly a very commercial objective behind it.Its presentations are made clearlyreminding people of India that we have caste system, we have religiousdifference and many other information which leads to make people feel the difference constantly. This news paper always describe achievements attached to caste-like so as so become the vice chancellor of this university and he is the first backward class person. The president is low caste and from untouchables etc. they will not highlight their achievements because of their qualifications, hard work and intelligence. This is how this news paper always keep the people thinking on division.
Coming back to the artical on
Happiness Index and TOI's comments on it, it was not surprising that it has taken the sameline to highlight this point without highlighting what is happiness index and how it is calculated. One has to educate people so that they know exactly what is this and how it is measured.
But instead of this, TOI just published this news like there nobody
happy in this world.
Basically happiness is related to indivisual's
needs/wants. We have in India so called saints, sadhusand Fakirs-whose needs are less than
Basic ones-Food/Clothes/Shelter.So they are happy with whatever food they getand whatever way they live.
India's large population is below poverty line and they have no hopes of doing better under the present circumstances in near or distnace futureand so they have to be contended with bare minimum that they get. There are many such cases which can give us the clue that many Indians are happy because their happiness is centered around basic needs.
If you however,
Look at the affluent class, they are going beyond basic needs and have so many wants to be fulfilled. This situationmake them always unhappy and keep them running after every opportunityto get the materialistic gains. They have to work overtime even at old age. Many of them get frustrated and diappointed andfinally commit suicides. Latest incidences of fil personalities committing suicides is an indicators. Look at so called big B-he is still working even at advances age and after sever illness. This is the situation for those so called affluents. Look at the politicians, they neverget retired till their death. Why because they are unhappy without their positions.
So there is no need to get elated because of higher happiness index. There is no need for such a servey. All Indians are very well aware that we are happy because we know we have to be contended with basic requirements which are really basic and we have nohopes of getting better.
I think such articals will make Indian people more complecent and impotent and will not try to better their leaving in this competative world.
