Sperm Revolution---------
It sounds quite weird in Indian context but it is a matter of fact. This is a solution for childless
couples who had given up the entire hopes .The word used is ‘Artificial Insemination’. This is a process in which
Sperm is collected and prepared by washing it, a way which concentrates the most motile sperm into a small volume and is stored in a small tube and passed through cerviv and uterine cavity and sperm is ejected into uterine cavity. (Intrauterine Insemination)Eggs are extracted from women’s ovary and then fertilized by sperm in a laboratory cultured into
early embryos. An early embryo is transferred back into women’s uterus but is a costly affair and has a high success rates. This is a dream come true to many couples but most couple asks question about
donors 1) Religion 50--—60%2)
Physical characteristics and
caste-10—25%, Other than this they ask about
color, appearance, built etc,But doctors counsels them to have the suitable match for them because it should suit their genes for instance a Negro’s sperm cannot be donated to a white one as it will not help. So mostly they are counseled and given a right sample and identity of the biological father is kept secret.Couples are told about caste, color and religion before this because of the sensitivity involved in the matter.Unlike other countries, India does not follow proper system of HIV test for donors.Cryogenie, Delhi’s oldest semen bank was formed in 1993, stores samples with physical attributes of donor and religion clearly tabulated. But people basically ask for designer sperms which is rarely possible.
