ASEAN has founded a
constitution known as "ASEAN Charter" to enhance ASEAN
community for the next eight years, 2015. The constitution will give direction to the movement of the
organization.
ASEAN needs stronger institutional space for enforcing the
members to
obey the decision.
The pillars of ASEAN community which are security, economy and socio-culture must be able to improve ASEAN unity as a whole process into ASEAN community scope.
Besides AFTA ( ASEAN Free Trade Area ), there is Regional Comission of Human
RIghts to accommodate the rights of the
citizens around ASEAN countries.
The head of high-rank officer task unit in Philipines said that European Union would be a reference and an inspiration, but not a model for ASEAN. ASEAN will work operationally based on intergovernmental action. It will be like UN whose members obey the sub-organization that has become part of the structure.
In ASEAN context, road map to ASEAN community is leading to prosperity sharing. Undoubtedly, the main thing which has been waited from ASEAN improvement is the capacity to protect the citizens with good education, health facilities, job opportunity and guaranteed human dignity.
The new ASEAN charter is expected to give strong balance for the organization.
