Reading ''Living, The Family Magazine'' from Wednesday last week made my day. As it always does!
The writer of my favourite
column ''Me and Mine'' talked about the lengths to which Kenyan women will go in order to look good. And her tale of the eye-brow tweezing and the pain this causes reminded me of one of my girl friends. On her frequent travels abroad, she decided to have her eyebrows threaded, and she told me it was a painful ordeal. On top of which I personally could not see what this did for her face, given that she wears spectacles! I found her looking extremely comical, and I could barely hold back my laughter every time I saw her!
Frequently the writer talks of issues that were different when she was growing up, as compared to this dot.com age when young people seem to be lost, or determined to become muscians. Hello! These stories highlight the real differences then and now, and the apprehension as regards the ambitions of the youth today. The play station has no doubt played a part in making the youth more house-bound and less social.
''Fatherhood 101'' is a read both entertaining and educative for all first-time parents. We share with the writer the development and escapades of his little bundle of joy ''Pudd''ng'', who reminds some of us of the things our own little ones put us through before they became not-so-responsible-teens!
This family magazine hosts a column by a  awoman who has been living with the HIV virus for the last twenty years, and who is a mother of two. She paints for her readers her real life experiences as a crusader for the rights of those living with HIV in Kenya.
A full page is dedicated to ''my dilemma'' , where writers seek advice on personal issues. And, boy, do they get an earful!
Definitely a must read every Wednesday!
