It is extremely saddening to read that some women in Ivory Coast are being stripped naked for
dancing.
Dancing to me has always been a very pure form of entertainment. It relaxes the mind
body and soul. Simply put dance is a healer.
Be it Ndombolo, Kwasa Kwasa, Helicopter or Wolosso dance and dancing is a delight and people have been Known to dance for hours on end. But there is also some kind of spirituality associated with dance and dancing not to mention the physicality and it is difficult to associate these
dances with anything else. So it is surprising and ironical that it is the physicality associated with these dances that is putting these
ladies in Ivory Coast in trouble. It is claimed that these dances are immoral.
These dances normally involve alot of body movements and especially gyrating the mid section of the body leading to the claim that they overly sexual. To some limiting the movement of the hips and
booties will be extracting too much fom these enjyoble dances. This they argue will make these dances completely flat and tastless and therefore totally unenjoyable.
On this note I would like to pause a question. How is it that men are never accused of over exploiting their sexuality when they shake they booties? This is because they also dance the same dances or is dancing also becoming a no go zone for women?
People who have been stripping these ladies have been claiming immorality their excuse being
religion. Religion has always been a modifying force in man''s life but it should never be used as a stick to punish those who do not subscribe to it rather religion should be persuasive. So these dancing ladies should be made to see the point of view of the religious instead of being coerced forcefully.
