Rockhopper
Penguin was successfully
hatched from its
egg in a open cage
after 35 days of marinating process by another penguin in Langkawi,
Malaysia. The successful story was recorded at 10am on 9th September
2007 at the Underwater World Langkawi (UML) at Pantai Chenang,
Langkawi. The Antartic is the coldest place on earth with the
temperature reaches -85 to -90 degree Celcius during winter and 30
degree Celcius during summer which differ alot from the temperature in
Malaysia. This event is believed to be the first in Malaysia although
last
year UWL succeed to breed 11 Black-Footed penguins from Afrika
using the Inkubator. The Rockhopper startes to
lay eggs early of August
2006 and the first egg hatched 9 September 2008. According to the life
cycle of penguin, a penguin is able to lay egg twice a year, around
February-Mac and August-September. A penguin will start to lay eggs
when aged between 6 and 12 year old, and live up to 25 year. More than
a year ago, 10 Blackfooteds and 2 Rockhoppers was successfull hatched
using the incubator and naturaly at the UML. Currently there are total
of 21 Rockhoppers and 28 Blackfooted are own by UWL.
