NLC REPLIES MAN

reports that the Nigerian labour congres(NLC) has criticised the
president of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria(MAN).It recalls in the
Report that
Mr Charles Ugwuh the MAN president at the 34th annual general meeting of the association in Lagos Tuesday,had openly thrown his weigth behind the
bid to elongate president Obasanjo's tenure.He argued then that the elongated tenure will pave the way for continuity and avoid the reversal of the positive achievements recorded by this regime.Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar and comrade John Odah,the Acting NLC president and secretary respectively,strongly condemned Mr ugwuh's support for the third term bid of the president.The NLC stalwarts pointed out in the
story that Mr Ugwuh's stand contradicteed MAN's earlier reports on the comatose state of industries in Nigeria..In a statement made available to the paper,the NLC stalwarts pointed out that setting aside the constitution could begin a process of anarchy which will negatively affect the business community.
In a related development the newspaper reports that the House of representatives has directed its committee on ethics and privileges to probe the allegation that some members received 70 million naira bribe to support the third term bid of president Obasanjo.A member of the house was said to have made the allegation.Also the Transition Monitoring Group(TMg) is reported to have cautioned the president on his third term bid.
FARMILY LOSES FOUR CHILDREN TO FIRE
The daily trust reports that a family lost the lives of four of her children in a mid-night fire. They were reported to be the children of one Mallam Kasim Tella,a commercial motorcycle operator in Buzaye area of Bauchi local govt.Area.The fire was reported to have resulted from a light from a hurricane lamp placed close to his motorcycle in a night of power outage.As at the time the report was filed the local Authorities were yet to be informed of the incidence or so it was claimed.
ROBBERS ATTACK REPS.
A report on the first page of the newspaper has it that the house of representatives in Nigeria received a report yesterday by some members who were separately attacked by armed robbers.According to the report,Hon.Atai Aidoko Ali from kogi state and Hon.Bala Ngileri from Adamawa state,were attacked at their residences at Apo Legislative quarters.The robbers were said to have carted away some money and several property.
COURT ORDERS ARREST OF PDP VICE-CHAIRMAN
A story on page two has it that a high court in minna Niger state has ordered the arrest and remand in prison custody of the national vice-chairman(north central) of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Abubakar Magaji for jumping bail during his trial on allegation of graft.The order for Magaji's arrest,according to a statement from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission(ICPC) in Abuja, was issued on Tuesday by justice Maria Zukogi because the accused "failed to show up in court despite being on bail".
Paris club:Senators seek detail of state's Liabilities.
A story with the above heading can be found on the page two of the newspapers.The story reports the debate on president Obasanjo's $12.4 Billion supplementary budget for offsetting the debt arrears to the paris club of creditors.During the debate senators considered it 'Inappropriate' to give final approval to the bill before the federal government submits a breakdown of the liabilty to the paris club of each of the states of the federation.The bill has been referred to the senate committee on appropriation for further consideration.
