Gay marriages have become prominent worldwide especially in Western societies, they are poised to promote human rights as a pivotal feature of democracies and free societies as campaign is intensified to entrench a new world order. Africans sees homosexually as a taboo and would never want same sex marriage to be encouraged. The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion , under Archbishop Peter Akinola received commendation and support in Nigeria and beyond when it led the opposition to the ordination of gay clerics in the Church in Europe and America and threatened to separate from the global Church as a result. Which many Church leaders in Africa see it as against biblical injunction. What is really at stake is the perception of Africa marriage and family, the core institution under threat. Nigeria is a morally conservative society and by this bill the government wants it so. Some Nigerians were not happy the attention being given to the subject as they called it a distraction. They argued that government should pay attention to more important issues. On the religion and secular dimensions, our society practices the marriage of a man and a woman for procreation as stipulated by God. These Government initiative shows that Nigeria is not ready to follow the new global trend in same sex marriage which could affect families negatively.
