EFCC moves Nnamani to Lagos, Dariye gets bail
Court rules on Turaki's freedom bid Friday By Wole Shadare (Lagos), Lemmy Ughegbe (Abuja) and Lawrence Njoku (Enugu)
The officials of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria are not letting the
alleged corrupt politicians go scot-free as they are making every effort to bring them to book. The alleged ex-governors of Enugu and Plateau States - Chimaroke Nnamani and Joshua Chibi Dariye respectively have been in the net of the EFCC, until yesterday when the latter secured the nod of the Federal High Court in Abuja for bail. Also involved is an ex-
governor; Saminu Turaki. All three former state Governors are being charged with financial misconduct during their tenure in office. A Federal High Court in Abuja on 23rd of July, 2007 granted Dariye bail in his trial. The price for Dariye's reprieve was a N100 million, and this is still dependent on the
decision of an Abuja High Court, where he awaits trial for alleged stealing. It is expected that such decision "must be exercised judicially and judiciously to ensure that justice is not only done, but also seen to have been done." A lot of comments are arose from the issue of granting bail but the decision of the Court will tell better. The fate of these politicians will be known when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finished with them.
