NIGERIA''S former world boxing
champion, James Oyebola, who was shot at a West London night club in the
early hours of Monday is brain dead, and doctors will be switching off his life support machine today. Described as "one of nature''s gentlemen," by Simon Block, a spokesman for the British Boxing Board of Control, Oyebola had an impressive professional career of 18 wins -16 being within the distance - out of 23 fights. He reached the pinnacle of his career in 1993 when he won the World Boxing Council (WBC) international
heavyweight title. He quit sports in 1996 after suffering a fifth round knockout in a one-sided fight dominated by former British Heavyweight
champion, Julius Francis. Oyebola is credited with guiding the career of current London-based Commonwealth Light Welterweight champion, Olusegun Ajose
