Based on the reactions from commentators and groups the
world over,
President of the International Bank for Recontruction and
Development otherwise known as World Bank Mr Paul Wolfowitz who has demontrated nepotism and
corruption through a
pay increase to his lover Shaha Riza now with the American State Department should resign his position and leave the
global financial organisation honourably.
After her secondment to the American State Department Paul Wolfowitz personally authorised a significant pay increase for Shaha Riza making her tax free income 193,000 dollars much more than that of her boss, the American secretary of state whose pre-tax income is 186,000 dollars.
''''Despite claims to the contrary by Wolfowitz, the Executive Board of the World Bank has asserted publicly that it did not approve the pay increase in question. This has made Wolfowitz vulnerable to charges of nepotism and conflict of interest violation''''
.It is rather unfortunate that the president of an apex global organisation with due process and anti-corruption posture who himself has pledge to fight corruption and follow it up by withhelding loan to kenya for reasons that border on corruption should be involved in such a crisis.
''''What matters at this crucial moment is the integrity of the institution and not the idiosyncrasies of its current president. The World Bank is a global institution with 184-member countries charged with the responsibility of promoting economic development and reducing poverty. This important responsibility cannot be sacrificed for the ego of one person, not even its president.
''''The consensus of global opinion is that Wolfowitz should go.His World Bank colleagues have said so,and so has the European Parliament, the international development group,Oxfam, and a host of other stakeholders throughout the world.''''
