12,2006 LEAEGUE TEARS NFA, NFL APART
The boards of the Nigeria
Football Association (NFA) and the Nigeria Football
League (NFL) are now set
for a showdown following the League board’s decision that the Premier League
would be abridges this year, with the top division having two groups, namely
group A and B.
The embattled
Chairman of NFA, Alhaji
Ibrahim Galadima, has criticized the decision, pointing out that it was a
deliberate attempt to scuttle football development in the country.
According to Galadima, member of the
League
board were very much aware of the laws that established both the NFA and
the League boards, and they are only capitalizing between the NFA board and the
Ministry of Sport to draw Nigerian football backward.
“They
know very well that the league
board cannot operate on its own with out referring there programmed to the NFA
board for approval. This is what the law says.”
It was stressed that the NFA board would
not approve the two-group format for the Premier League clubs, because Nigeria
has grown beyond such an arrangement. It was stated that the board decides the
group matches must take place, and then they should know that it would not be
recognized.
NFA chairman explained further that by
implication Nigeria would not have representative in next year’s CAF club
competitions.
However, NFA boss said his “prayers boss
for all of us to respect the rule of the game,” adding that if the proposal on
the new league format comes to his board, that it would be looked into for the
benefit of football growth in the country; and not to allowed selfish interest
to override interest.
