What did Hurricane Katrina reveal?
Katrina revealed a lot about some people and the
government of the United States.
Its people are too dependent on the
government. They posed the questions – “Where are the buses they promised? Where are the helicopters?” That is what you see and hear from an advanced country where almost just about everything is automated. Compare their people to Southeast Asian countries that are yearly battered by typhoons. When a typhoon is impending, they are prepared. No long lines for evacuation. They have enough food and water to sustain them. No complaining that the government did not help them. The poorest of the poor do not even go looting or stealing. Even they, the poor, are prepared.
Another intriguing concern is, why was New Orleans set up at that location, when they are well aware that is ten feet below sea level, it is beside Lake Ponchartrain, and it is very close to the sea? Those dikes and levees will hold, yes, but for how long? Even if they able to improve the levees, if it were hit by a tsunami, which definitely cannot be contained by the improvement, what will they comment on next? Of course they know that static pressure of the lake will make water find its way in and through the smallest cracks, fissures and crevasses. The only thing the government could have done a few days before was to evacuate as many as they could.
An astounding revelation is the number of poverty stricken civilians there are in the United States! If the figure of 37 Million is correct, then that is 14.8% of its 250 Million
population. If there are four to a family on the average, then that means 9,250,000 families in poverty! This means that the U.S. economy does not have enough industry, or rich people, yet to provide a decent livelihood for its entire population.
Letters to the Editor come from different points of view, that if you try to consolidate it, every point of view of will contradict at least one or the other. Like one single parent with four children who worked, studied and came out well. Not everybody will have that same will and determination that she has! We were not brought up under the same conditions, environs and disciplines! That’s the reason why the success and motivational preachers got really nowhere. They probably got only three percent or less success rate from all their ‘enrollees’! A good economy will always be an upright pyramid, never an up-side-down pyramid. There will always be a need for several workers or laborers to support a few at the top. Even if just half of the people were rich equally rich, there will not be enough people to work for them. It is ultimately impossible for one rich person to do good business with just one employee! That will mean bad economy.
The problem with the U.S. is they tax people so much then promise that the government will take care of them. This makes people too dependent on the U.S. government to take care of their woes.
