tourism office showed that Cebu has overtaken Boracay as a tourist destination.• A report by the national tourism office quoted by television network ABS-CBN and The Freeman newspaper cited Cebu and Misamis Occidental Province in Mindanao as new prime tourist
destinations which have dislodged Boracay as a leading tourist destination.• The report said Cebu received a total of 748,006 foreign and local visitors, compared to Aklan Province -- where Boracay is located-- of 400,000 local and foreign tourists• Misamis Occidental, known for its seafoods, among others, is second in the list, with 526,367 tourists.• Tourism Director Patricia Aurora Roa said that Cebu''s place in the tourism arena could be attributed to the joint efforts of government and private sectors and that of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, a Cebuano, to promote Cebu and other tourist destinations of the country.• Specifically Roa mentioned the presence of an international airport, world class amenities, way of hosting (as shown in the ASEAN Summit) and heritage sites, among others as the other factors that favored Cebu as a tourist destination.•
