The Philippine Daily Inquirer is an offshoot of
people power. But to put it in another way, people power formed an
environment for the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It is a broadsheet that covers a wide array of topics from news and current affairs, local and foreign, commentaries and opinion, sports, lifestyle, and everything. I can consider this
newspaper as a product of many
people''s mind, a collaboration of intellectuals and activists and common people. They simply make the news, mold the news, and presto - here is history of the Philippines in the making right in front of your very own eyes. You won''t get bored, and you won''t get tired of digesting all these stuff, from the ordinary news in the slums (oh yes, there are slums, as one of the topic), to the lifestyles of rich and famous, the ever talkative politicians in Congress and the fields and farms and the beautiful sceneries of the countryside. The PDI, as it is also called, does not tell stories half-baked, or narrate them like they are stories of the third world. It tells the facts of a competing and globalizing world - the Philippines. Business, politics, opinion, sports, money and every point of interest for a hungry mind - you''ll find it.I was starting to write - and read (professionally of course) when I decided that this PDI should be my daily read. In other words, it has to be my daily mental "food" if I had to improve my writing. And, it helped me a lot - as you can see. It is not just an ordinary newspaper. It is about life and its intricacies. It teaches people to be sober, moral, upright, intelligent - what have you. Read. PDI. The world''s leading newspaper - in the Philippines. And I am not one of its writers. Just one of its readers.
