Labor Racket
Two young men from Cebu City who were looking for jobs so they can pay
their tuition fee responded to an ads offering immediate employment for waiters, busboys, clerks, collectors, messengers, etc.
The two found hundreds of men and women responded to the ads, each of whom was required to pay P35PHP for pictures and another P25PHP for interview. Then they were told to return after two days. When they returned, like most of the applicants, they were told that they did not pass the examination. When they demanded refund of their money, they were told that the company does not make any refunds.
Then there is this company in Sta. Mesa, Manila which also required applicants to pay P35PHP for ID pictures and P50PHP for interview plus and additional P100PHP for endorsement. The job is to sell fake fruit juice drinks and to sell a device claimed to reduce electric consumption.
This device is also fake, it looks like an ordinary regular extension cord but contains a resistor inside which reduced the flow of electric current. This device actually causes damage to the appliance where it is used.      Some years ago, a former policeman now a city mayor together with his men arrested six employees processing the application of hopeful employees. Charges were filed but the racketeers used their wealth to avoid imprisonment. These groups of racketeers are believed to have been hiring good lawyers to handle their defense and even used corrupt lawmen to threaten the complaining victims.
