NEWCASTLE, England (AFP) - Egyptian
striker
Mido has a double wish for Sunday''''s northeast derby between Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
The first is that he will be given the chance to lead Boro''''s attack and the second is that there will be no repeat of the "suicide bomber" taunts he had to endure when the clubs last met.
The Egypt striker, who was the target for anti-Islamic abuse when Newcastle drew 2-2 at Middlesbrough in August, insists he will not be distracted should the same thing occur again, but would prefer not to have to deal with it.
"If they do start chanting again I will just make sure that I keep my head calm and aim to do well for the
team
," said the forward.
"But I hope we don''''t
hear
it -- it is terrible when you hear people making chants about race, colour, religion or whatever.
"You don''''t normally hear that sort of stuff in everyday life here and it should be absolutely kept out of
football
. That is especially the case in England, where people should understand that they, more than anyone, can set an example."
The conduct of a section of Newcastle fans during the first meeting of the two clubs was investigated by the Football Association, but it proved impossible to identify the fans involved, leading some critics to suggest the incident had not been taken sufficiently seriously.
Mido added: "I just hope that if we do hear it again the Football Association will take the right decisions. It''''s not only about me, it affects everyone."
Having missed out on the African Nations Cup because of injury, Mido is battling to break back into Boro''''s first-team but, with Gareth Southgate''''s side on a five-match unbeaten run, could be obliged to start on the bench at St James'''' Park.
The Egyptian''''s first-team opportunities are likely to become even more limited following the arrival of prolific goalscorer Afonso Alves.
The Brazilian, signed for a
club
record 12 million pounds from Dutch side Heerenveen, is not expected to be able to make his debut on Sunday as he will not have obtained a UK visa in time.
Southgate is bracing himself for an all-out assault from Newcastle as the Magpies seek to end a run of three games without a goal that has slightly deflated the bubble of excitement associated with Kevin Keegan''''s return to the club as manager.
"I guess they will be thinking everything starts from now (under Keegan)," Southgate said. "They will attack us and go for the win, but it''''s a game we''''re really looking forward to.
"I''''ve got a group of players that are in the right frame of mind, we''''ve got competition for places and we''''re in a decent run and we want to keep that going."
Newcastle are under pressure to produce the kind of free-flowing football associated with Keegan''''s previous stint at the club and fit-again winger Damien Duff is relishing the challenge.
"It''''s great having Kevin about the place, he''''s such a positive person and he will benefit players like myself," said the Irish winger.
Points
are the priority however. Newcastle have not won a league game since they beat struggling Fulham 1-0 in mid-December and a defeat on Sunday would leave them only marginally above the relegation battle.
Duff admitted: "The bottom teams are creeping up and we need to get some points. We are looking at games like Middlesbrough to get points. But these are still exciting times and we aim to play exciting football."
Keegan''''s chances of seeing the first goal of his second reign have been boosted by news that Australian striker Mark Viduka will make his comeback from injury on Sunday.
