Approximately 30,000 people in Spain die each year due to
obesity. This is the second potentially preventable illness in Spain, behind those caused by tobacco, which causes public health problems. What worries the representative from AESA most is obesity in children, since this continues to escalate. Statistics show that up until the age of 18, 25% of the population is overweight. For purposes of heading off this situation, the government has decided to implement the National Strategy on Nutrition and Physical Fitness, an obviously good idea, but which however, will not show any results for quite some time.
