I was visiting my son in San Francisco over the Christmas period and I was staying with his friends for a few days!
I chanced upon the NEW YORK TIMES lying on the coffee
table at NAPPA Valley in the house at which we were staying:
I picked it up and chanced upon the Theatreland views: Gabriel Bryne an Irish Actor is starring in New York in a Eugene O'Neill Play: SOMETHING OF THE POET! A slight hint of THE ULSTER about that.
The
book reviews caught my eye: and John Update is featured prominently for his work entitled VILLAGES: as someone who grew up in a Village I wondered if he had much to say that was of interest to me: the reviewer assures the reader that its a worthy contribution to Literature: in the past, COUPLES was the book on the table at our BOOK GROUP in the UK! We
discussed into the wee small hours: was there light and dark, fair or foul! You name it , we discussed it.
Advertisements are exciting and inviting especially for luxury items such as Furs: I felt that my poor fake
Fur was a humble attempt on my part to do a bit of a cover job! In fact the lady in front of me on the flight back, Business Class from San Francisco to London was actually wearing a real fur! I couldnt take my eyes off her fur coat! It was simply divine dear!
NEW TIMES was there too covering President George Bush's pronouncements in America and The World: I always feel reassured to sit down and plough through weighty journals such as THE NEW YORK TIMES: it was like
home from home!
Happy New Year 2006 to NEW YORK TIMES!
