Living or working in London these days is riskier than ever. We used to be under threat from organisations like the IRA but
real fear and concern was not a normal day to day thing for the general public. Now, after the July 7th bombings, the public are generally more aware of the risks involved with being in the capital. These events took place as a direct result from Britain’s involvement in the fight against
terrorism after the September 11th atrocities. Tony Blair went into war despite the general public feeling being negative. As a direct result from that decision, the terrorist movement have retaliated against Britain and have threatened to attack again unless we remove our troops. You would think that Tony Blair would consider the public safety when making decisions such as these but instead, he insists we will not be beaten and carries on as normal. He is not the one in constant risk of being killed by these terrorists - He is the one taking holidays in Barbados! The real and sad tragedy in all of this is that, the innocent people who are simply going about their lives are the ones paying for the actions of the government and the terrorists. We are the ones on public transport running the risk of being killed and we are the ones who lose our families to these tragedies. Look at Jean Charles de Menezes for example, he was simply going about his own business but, after the bombings triggered paranoia and suspicion in everyone, the police
suspected he was part of a group of terrorists and killed him. When they realised he was not part of a terrorist group, a cover-up was suspected but has not as yet been proven. The point is that, it was Jean Charles that was killed and it is his family that is suffering and will be for a long time to come. He is yet another victim of terrorist activity.
