Daily Star blog arrrived in double quick time and I was mesmerized by the headlines ...
IBM lays off 1570 workers ... as I have read it so many times before.
As a former IBMer in the UK I have never been "laid off", or made "redundant" or
"sacked" or "disciplined" or "left on the dole" for more than a twinkle in your
eye and a shillaylee in your hand ... but I appreciate others have so you have
my sympathy.
In fact its just an ordinary day and I phoned my Engineer here in Hampshire as his father''s
generation used to meet that crisis ... they in Mr. Scott''s case were the Eighties
generation though sadly Mr Scott''s father has died recently, so you can be sure his son grieves
his passing.
I worked with that generation as a mere fledgling in the UK for IBM Hursley
Winchester, England ... and they say my reputation spread far and wide ... I left to have my first child, and returned to work again after the birth of my second
child .. and my former partner was and still is an IBMer in Europe ... so its
interesting to note that
those of us who had to "hang on" to jobs throughout
life on earth, still do ...
Laying people off is always bad news where I presently come from ... i.e. England as
it totally spoils the Bank Holidays you were looking foward to, or the Christmas
treat you had promised the
family or indeed any other future planning that you or
your friends and family may have set up in advance in lieu of your permanent
employment ...
So you must then take advice as I have done and take out Insurance against
Unemployment in life and then you have a "soft fall" and the promises you made
to all can be fulfilled.
Keep the faith and keep on working ... interesting reading in Daily Star ....
excellent stuff!
