The Daily Mirror

Newspaper Summary by: Jonnytkd

Not wishing to come across as moralistic, but I can’t help but think to myself that society has changed, not for the better.
I have just read through the story of “Alfie Patten”, who as a child of thirteen years of age was disappointed, that DNA test proved he was not the father of a baby girl.
Chantelle Stedman, 15 of Eastbourne, UK, in fact conceived a child by another 15 year old boy, Tyler Barker who lives on the same estate as Chantelle, in Eastbourne.
Tyler told the Daily Mirror he lost his virginity to Chantelle during a one-night stand last May after spending the evening drinking at her home.
Tyler stated "I did not use any contraception as Chantelle told me she would take the morning-after pill”. Her mother knew I was going to sleep with Chantelle.
The next morning Chantelle’s mother asked 'Did you have a good night?' It was routine for boys to stay over with her in her bed." Tyler exclaimed.
As the parent of a 12 year old boy and a thirteen year old girl, I have a moral and social responsibility to my children to teach them, what is right and wrong.
I can, not help but think to myself, “What sort of mother would allow children to drink alcohol and sleep with her 15 year old daughter whilst in her care”.
This story has renewed calls for better sex education in England, which has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in Western Europe.
Social, moral and sex education is however not just the responsibility of the education system. It also comes down to the parents to teach children the basic principals of what is right and wrong in society.
