have observed with great displeasure the increasing magnitude of irritating selfishness in some persons. They want to be
at the receiving end always. Most people would rather be visited at home and in the office than visit others. They would rather receive letters and e-mails than write to their friends and family members; they would choose to be called on phone than take the initiative to call others. They would prefer for friends to celebrate with them to celebrating with others. When you log on to an on-line chat messenger, and see they are already on-line, they would rather wait for you to fire the first shot. Else, they would not say a word.
This category of friends and relatives are the ones who will see you and (first) accuse you of not being in touch one way or the other. To me, this attitude smacks of selfishness and self-centeredness. It takes us nowhere, and that is why probably the world does not move as fast as it should.
As it is in matters relating to intangibles (visits, calls and so on), so it is with physical things in life. If some of us could release the stronghold we have on material things (money and money’s worth), and give to the poor and needy, rather than expect to receive all the time, people will lack less and the level of poverty the world over would greatly reduce.
My friend, ask yourself the obvious: on which side of the divide are you, where do you belong in the scheme of things?
