I am going to devote this abstract to the greatbroadcaster and theatre expert
Sheridan Morley son of Robert Morley
the very famous actor of my
childhood. His obituary is in today's Daily Telegraph.
Sheridan Morley died last night ... age 65 in his sleep and he is survived
by his wife and family. His career is very exciting and he wrote books
and produced programmes on Noel Coward, and many other famous
names in the theatre.
In fact, Sheridan Morley had a programme on BBC Radio 2 every Sunday
evening which I listened to regularly ... I found his wonderful breadth
of theatricality and news really uplifting ... especially as I was
deep into writing myself ... and the musical choices were simply
marvellous!
Previous to that I had come upon Sheridan Morley on a late night
Friday evening broadcast : The Green Room, in which he dealt
with the arts and interviews with those who were in and around
London. He like me had lived in California ... that is something I had in common!
He had a wonderful sense of humour and a sensitivity to all
listeners so much so that when I was offered a writer's contract
from the United States of America, and requested to write a number
of poems I included one named after Sheridan Morley and his
Programme on the Radio/BBC 2 ... Melodies for You!
It was so successful in terms of people buying my book:
ROCK ME that I decided to contact Sheridan Morley at the
BBC and I received an email back just before Christmas, to the
effect of saying "thanks" . Now its my turn to say "thanks"
for the memories of those great listening evenings in Northern Ireland courtesy of the BBC Radio 2.
I am
sad at the loss of Sheridan but then I suppose I have the
poem in my collection to keep his memory alive. My book
ROCK ME genre: Poetry:

Sad reading in today's Daily Telegraph ... but then ... you mix
the sad with the happy and get a balance I guess of those
two killing emotions ... I have my poem to remember
Sheridan Morley ... and so have my readers.
My friend in Istanbul has just received a copy of ROCK ME so his joyous response to it encourages me to
keep it "on the shelf" for awhile ..
Keep on reading ... excellent stuff!
