The Guardian on Saturday is full of exciting news not least the news of
Doris Lessing''s great win at the Nobel Prizes in Stockholm Sweden as
Nobel Laureate for Literature in 2007 - as a British writer .. some of her words in
the Guadian are there for all to read and I note that she feels very
strongly about
books, and the availability of books in schools and
worries a lot about no readings of these books by the modern day
citizen. She appears to concentrate on blogging and thinks its
something of a flash in the pan and a waste of energy if it diverts
citizens away from
reading books .......strong words from the
winner Doris Lessing at 87/88 years of age.
On the next page or two Orhan Pamuk is interviewed and he describes
in great detail his Turkish point of view as Pamuk was last year''s
Nobel
Prize Winner for Literature in 2006 for Turkey .... he was
convicted of anti Turkish behaviour and sent to jail but later released by the Turkish Authorities and he collected his prize at the ceremony in 2006 ... there are many
references to Istanbul and The Black Book is one that Pamuk takes the time to deal with effectively for the Guardian readers.
Fashion seems to hinge around very thin legs ...spider like clothes ... hung over
thin people who are an echo of that Audrey Hepburn look in the film ..
Breakfast at Tiffanys .... very chic!
I have long been an admirer of Wendy Cope the English Poet and she writes
today about her work and mentions gravestones and what she might want to put on hers when the time comes .... she worries too about copyright and feels that poets such as Cope herself should get paid for their poems ... lots of money .... I endorse her every sentiment ...
Interesting reading in today''s Guardian .. keep on reading The Guardian ..
