Ever since college I''ve had a kind heart for the Guardian. So If
you will forgive an old
man his musings. You Brits never have
understood us colonials. Now along comes Georgy Bush son, whose
daddy''s ass was kicked in Kuwait. Now almost eight years later the
United States is ready to launch an unprecedented presidential
election not seen since Dewey lost. To understand our election system you
need to go back to history. Ben Franklin harbored royalist sympathies
and was shocked at his bretheren''s response to His Majesty. However
Patrick Henry was a colonial through and through. Fast forward now
to the present election. With Obama and Hillary running
neck and neck
its
going to get very hot in the kitchen. Never has the United States
had a woman or a
black man nominated to the office of president. You
Brits already did, Margaret Thatcher. Shows you how backward we
colonials are......Make no mistake, this is a history making event for
the United States. Only a few decades ago there were laws that kept a
black man from voting at all. Only in 1920 were women allowed to vote
in the US
elections when the 19th Amendment was ratified...... On the
Republican side look out for a John McCain to make is appeal as a
warrior peace soldier keeping the home front safe. Mitt Romney is a
dark horse because of his Mormon faith. This may or may not be a
problem for him. The one to watch however is Michael Bloomberg, the
mayor of New York City. With his millions of dollars he may run as an
Independent or Republican. He is waiting in the wings for a shoot out
between Huckabee and McCain and Romney.....Yes the US election in
November 2009 is going to be very interesting colonial dust up.
