By very definition, The Sun congers bright and airy
images. The desert island beach, surrounded by crystal clear oceans on all sides. A palm tree staining out to the sea as if lurching for a final drink before the heat of the
day takes its victory.
It is with these images in mind that we
read the escapism paper, to take us from our
grey and drab
lives. It is not until we read the headlines of another day on planet Earth, that a stark realisation hits
home.
Suddenly, stories of unimaginable suffering and indignity greet us over our corn flakes and we realise that we are in a cruel and unjust world. Perhaps our mundane and grey lives aren’t so bad after all. With the utopia we all long for even further out of reach, it seems the rays of sunshine are truly brought home to us by the comparatively quiet and unobstructed lives we lead.
