The Sun is a British tabloid, published daily in the English language. It is published by News Group Newspapers of News International, a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.
The Sun is extremely popular and has the highest circulation of any daily English-language newspaper in the world (more than 3 million copies sold every day!). It launched in the year 1964, as a rival to The Daily Mirror. By 1978, The Sun has overtaken The Daily Mirror in circulation.
The Sun includes stories regarding news, sports, entertainment and local affairs, all written and edited in a very boisterous and provocative style. It has been accused of racism, populism, sexism, homophobia and what not.
The Sun was involved in many controversies. Feminists despise their Page 3 section, which features porno-style photos of women. There is always much criticism over their sensationalistic headlines, which lack any tact. For instance, the headline "GOTCHA", published when during the Falklands War, the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano was torpedoed by the Brits. Or the headline - "From Hitler Youth to Papa Ratzi", published when German Joseph Ratzinger was elected Pope Benedict XVI.
The Sun is amusing to read if it is not taken seriously. It can be very funny and they usually have a few great bizarre stories that are meant to shock but are mostly good for a laugh. Don't be tempted into believing that The Sun's exclusive stories are true. Their sources are refuted time and time again.
Bottom line: If you read it in The Sun, it may not be true, but it sure as hell very funny.
