Dramatic CCTV footage of Ramzi Mohammed was shown in court today. Mr Nigel Sweeney QC stated and showed pictures of Mohammed 'aiming' his rucksack towards a mother and her child just prior to trying to detonate his
bomb. With the memories of the last bombing only a fortnight before the passengers started to panic with the exception of one off duty fireman who challenged Mohammed. Despite, his claims at innocence Mohammed made a run for it as the train stopped at The Oval Station. The July 7th
bombings play a major role in this trial. Although it is evident that this was probably planned before the previous bombings and according to Mr Sweeney was not a copycat
attempt. He claims that this had been planned for weeks before and has produced a lot of very convincing evidence to try and persuade the jury that this is the
case. The
recipe for the explosive which was 'cooked' in two saucepans and a frying pan at Yassin Omar's one bed room flat in New Southgate, North London. The prosecution claim that the formula was successfully tested at a quarry prior to the attempt to ensure that the formula did work. Forensic Scientists from Kent have made the formula from the recipe and on every occassion the recipe worked and the exposive detonated. Mr Sweeney explained to the court that it is unclear where there was a problem with the manufacture of these chemicals or if it was the hot weather that day. But the fact that they did not work was simply down to good fortune and the failure of the bombs owed nothing to the defendents. But Mr Sweeney did comment that one thing that the
plotters did have to consider after the previous bombings. Due to a higher security profile and the fact that bags were searched especially in the rush hour the plotters had to reconsider when to act. They decided that it would be better to make the attempt at around lunchtime when security would be more relaxed. Three of the six men are said to be disciples of the extemist cleric Abu Hanza. Mr Sweeney stated that this was an extremist plot to create another bloodbath and carnage on London's public transport system The six defendents are all African born Muslims coming from Ethiopia, Ghana and Somalia, it's suggested by the prosecution that Omar studied chemicals and exposives while at college. If this is the case Omar would have had a good knowledge of chemical compounds especially those for exposives. Many componants for explosives may be bought quite easily from unsuspecting retailers and wholesalers. Mr Sweeney informed the court that some componants were purchased arounds late April and May 2005. This also strengthens the prosecutions case that the plot was hatched before the July 7th bombings was planned and that these men probably acted independently. A large number of bottles of Hydrogen Peroxide was purchased from several suppliers the plotters said it was for removing wallpaper and bleaching wood. Due to the fact that one of the bombers seems to have lost his nerve it appears that he dumped his rucksack bomb in a wooded area in Little Wormwood Scrubs it was found two days later so as a result only five of the men are that of would be suicide bombers. Mr Sweeney produced a copy of the rucksack bomb, the main ingredients were put into plastic containers with nails, tacks and screws etc. taped to the outside to cause maximum damage and carnage to whoever was in range. This is much like the Provisional IRA nail bomb of the 1970s which was mainly used on British troops in Northern Ireland. As well as showing the replica bomb the prosecution showed footage of what a detonation of this kind of bomb could do Despite, many groups complaining about the amount of CCTV camers we have in this country it's the aid of such technology that these plotters were caught. This evidence can be used to prove innocence as well as guilt. It should be remembered that a great many followers of Islam abhor this kind of action as well as the rest of us many Muslimslive in London and also use the tube. A bomb is a malicious weapon that will cause damage and death to all with no respect to creed, gender or religion.
