Dropping in
today at Southampton''s Hilton Hotel I picked up a copy of today''s
Times, and my attention was drawn to the recent death of George Melly
at 80 years old ... Melly was a
great favourite in the world of jazz and died
as he lived ... enthusiatically! He was selected as an
amateur in 1957 and later become a true Professional as a writer and
jazz musician .. he was born - August 12 1926 and died July 5 2007 so
he lived a long and illustrious life - perhaps it is as a /talented amateur/that
he will be fondly remembered thus the
reading of today''s Obituary in
The Times.
Onto a happier lot of the abstract writer and Football is a great favourite so I am told by those
who know both in the UK and Internationally ... and West Ham are still pretty active
according to The TIMES --- Tennis - Djokovic shines like a star amidst the
doom and gloom I suppose of British weather - at Tennis ... Guinness Beer and
taste matters - only if you
drink the stuff! Personally, I hate it - and never
shall drink Guinness - I have beautiful
white teeth and I aim to keep my dentist and myself happy. I stay with "white wine"¬ and of course Earl Gray Tea.
The Holy War continues - Mrs Cherie Blair is
pictured and she looks well for an
ex Prime Minister''s wife ... Blair is pictured and as he has given up "his seat" in the UK
and is now: Peace Envoi to the Middle East ... the Times poses the question ... who is the man to take Blair''s position ... we will wait and see.
Great stuff in today''s Times ---- excellent reading - keep on reading The TImes.
