There are
different kinds of
phobias, and there are many different techniques to cure them, (like virtual reality, for example, which is a recent technique, becoming true the possibility to face
fears like
heights and flying, impossible to re-create in an office). It is difficult for a phobic to live with a constant fear of something. Psychologists divide phobias in 3 categories: Social Phobias, Panic disorders and Specific phobias (The most common). The scientist studies concluded that human
brain still has a link with our ancestor's brain. They say we have an innate perception of the places and things that represent danger, and the impulse to
avoid it when one of them is close. We can be sure that every contemporary phobias fit into 4 subcategories: Fear of insects or animals; Fear of natural environments (like heights, dark…); Fear of blood or injury or Fear of dangerous situations (like being trapped in a tight place), but genetics don't have to be the only reason for phobias. A childhood trauma can seize the brain's attention and cause fears. But temperament is also
important to study phobias, since we cannot forget that two people can go through the exact same event, and the most sensitive person is more vulnerable to the fear. Even watching other people reacting with terror to something may be important. But phobic avoids their phobias. So, the harder they work to avoid the things they fear, the more brain grows convinced that the treat is real. That's the reason why doctors try to confront patients with their fears.
