It is a wet soggy day and I rushed to catch the bus into the City of
Southampton and bought my copy of today's Times.
It kicks off with the statement that Brits no longer favour marriage ... well,
that has been the scene "man" since I was only 19 years old.
In
fact, everyone got maried and those of us who hung on to
career and money still seem to be doing the same thing .. its
like history repeats itself. Since my divorce I have not married!
After 50 years France finds a
lady chef ... sounds a bit like me though
I am not a "cook" but I do do the odd thing in the kitchen ... I have been
known as a "lady poet" in my
Time, probably true!
France has voted in Anne-Sophie Pic age 37 has been pushed to the
top of the CHEFS Tree of Success and in runs in her family ... she is
descended from a long line of chefs ... or cooks as we
used to say
in the business of English teaching, even to our second language
speakers. In fact my former boss is convinced that everytime he
emails me he must put in the word "COOK" as he thinks I will
use nothing else. In fact I am truly up to the minute and
now include "Chef" ... the Lady Anne-Sophie Pic has been voted in by
Michelin ... Congratuatlions Anne-Sophie Pic!
Matthew Paris my all time favourite Times journalist starts with the line
a great favourite in London ...the urgent need for a new public
lavatory system .. Matthew Paris poses the question ..
"Why do women leave lavatory seats down!" Well, I suppose as a woman
I could ask "Why do men leave lavatory seats up!" ..
The answer: Habit and custom and of course time.
I note that it takes longer these days to go to the "
bog" or "
loo" in England
than it used to as all lavatories are now on the TOP FLOOR of that big
shopping centre and even then ... the procedures are very slow ...
the hanging about annoys me ... I like a quick job and its all over ...
no such luck here in the Sunny South ... its become a visit to the
Ladies Loo rather like a Royal or Presidential Walkabout!
I always dress up for the occasion as they say contracts are signed in the
Executive Ladies and Gentlemen's Toilets! I imagine so ..
Happy reading in today's Times ... excellent stuff!
