Immigration Bill Pulled From Docket With
approximately twelve million illegal
immigrants trapped
in a state of limbo- the United States Senate delivered what might become the death knell to Immigration Reform. Eunice Moscoso of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, withdrew this legislation
following his defeat on a cloture vote or an attempt to shut-off debate. Following this action- Senator Reid stated that- ` I hope that we can find a way to do it.` He went on to say that- `I want to finish this bill but I can`t do it alone. We need some help.` Interestingly, the Immigration Bill removed from the Senate Calendar by Senate Major Leader Harry Reid enjoys the support of President Bush. The GOP (Republicans) received the blame for the bill`s extraction from the current calendar. Should the bill become law- it would permit illegal immigrants ``to register fairly quickly for a `Z visa`, it will allow the holder of this visa to remain in the United States to work. In eight years or more, the immigrants may seek ``permanent legal residency and eventual citizenship with the payment of fines and scaling other hurdles. These guidelines established a temporary employee program for
approximately 200,000 foreign laborers each year.
