The Tuscaloosa News reports today (December 10 2007) that the University of Alabama''s
program to help
students with forms of Autism has so far been successful. This Fall, the UA ASD
College Transition and Support Program has helped three students with Autism Spectrum Disorder handle the pressures of college. The University program, one of five in the country, has been getting calls from interested parents - despite the fact that they have not even advertised this service. Each student in the program gets a mentor who they can call 24 hours a day. They also meet with counselors weekly. Students pay an extra $3000 per semester to be in the program.
