John McCain says affair allegations absolutely ''''not true''''
Republican presidential front-runner John McCain, his wife at his side,
today denied having a sexual relationship with a Washington
lobbyist whose access to the
senator once raised eyebrows among his staff.
McCain met with the media after a front-page story in The New York Times — quoting anonymous sources —
reported aides to the Arizona senator had encouraged the pair to stay away from each other during his 2000 run for the White House.
Iseman, a 40-year-old blonde with a striking resemblance to Cindy McCain, was a frequent presence at McCain fund-raisers, in his office and aboard a client''''s corporate jet, the Times reported.
Some of Iseman''''s
clients made sizable contributions to McCain''''s campaign when he chaired the Senate commerce committee, the Times reported.
McCain''''s lawyer, Robert Bennett, blasted the Times for ignoring a dozen instances where the senator "took positions adverse to this lobbyist''''s clients and her public relations firm''''s clients." Speaking on NBC''''s "Today" show, Bennett said the Times learned about those cases from McCain''''s staff prior to publishing the story in today''''s paper.
